Got their Double Cheeseburger with an added egg and bacon. Its a warm and filling meal, with fries to complement the carefully crafted burger. A warmly-lit bar-styled diner with welcoming service. Nothing feels rushed, you actually feel like time slows down here. The cooks are down-to-earth. As a Canadian, this is exactly what I wanted to experience when I visited Chicago. Had a great date meal with my partner here. Thumbs up.

The burger at au cheval did not disappoint at all!! The service was great and it's very cute on the inside. It's a first come first serve and I do recommend if you're a large party do know there will be a wait.

Foie Gras Foie Gras Scrambled Eggs I saw someone say that their foie gras scrambled eggs were delicious, so I came here to check in. It was indeed novel, but a little salty for me. The foie gras was very minced and made into a sauce with a vegetable. It was worth trying, but it wasn't amazing. It was just right to eat with the bread with beef bone marrow because the bread was baked very fragrant. - 2Bone Marrow Roasted Beef Bone Marrow This is highly recommended! My friend and I both like it very muchIt's amazing. Although eating too much beef bone marrow is very greasy, but with their secret sauce, which should be burnt onions, it is very refreshing. The toast is very thick and baked very crispy. It is super delicious with the bone marrow and sauce. But it was also really full. The toast was so fragrant that I couldn't help eating it.

Long wait of around 45 mins and got seated at the bar for a party of 2. It was cool to sit there and observe their burger making process. Pretty small restaurant too. The burger came out quick and was pretty good. A double cheeseburger comes with 3 patties and the single comes with 2 patties. I'm so glad I split with my friend because the burger was so fat (AND SO GOOD). The flavors were great and I felt like the burger didn't give an overly greasy/ oily feeling afterward. Although if we didn't share that could be a different story. The total came out to almost $40 after tax and tip, so expect a great burger that comes with a price. I'd come back though

This spot has been on my foodie bucket list for so long...glad to have finally made it here! Came on a weeknight with a large-ish group of friends, and we crammed into one of their outside streetside tables for our meal. Server was very patient with our group and made sure to get everyone's order right. Of course, I had one of their famous cheeseburgers, and we also decided to split a plate of potato hash. Meal service took a while, but they were super-packed and I know it was all cooked fresh. I had my cheeseburger topped with a runny egg and thick cut peppered bacon...it was divine and rich cooked to a perfect medium rare. The potato hash was unctuous topped with duck heart gravy and a fried egg perched atop. This had to be the most expensive burger and fries I've ever eaten, and so glad I did (this one time). Fun and lively atmosphere inside and out as well. Make sure to give them a try!

Came here around 5:35 on a Friday with a group of 6. We put our names down, and were seated around 50 minutes later. Plenty of good spots to wait in the neighborhood (lone wolf is bar next door that normally has decent seating options if you want to wait there!). The inside is very cozy. A slight heads up that seating with a group more than 4 can be hard because they mainly have one size of booth. We had 6 in our booth and it was fine, but if you want a bit more space you can ask them to put your group down for two tables. Service both at the door and from everyone in the restaurant was great. Everyone was very kind and helpful! The burger was really good, I got mine with the bacon. A single is 2 patties and a double is 3. We all got the single, and it was the right amount. The fries were just okay to me, I probably prefer something a bit more seasoned. The potatoes also ran a bit sweet which isn't my favorite for a fry. Honestly, my favorite thing we got were the bread and butter pickles. I don't normally love a sweet pickle but these were the perfect amount of freshness. I would definitely order some of them for the table if you go! Overall, a lot to enjoy here, but I probably won't return often just because the popularity makes the wait a long one, and there are other burgers I prefer in the city!

This place is a Chicago institution and for good reason! We walked in with no wait for a weekday lunch, which I definitely recommend. It's a relatively smaller restaurant with an open kitchen/diner feels, so it can feel cozy and intimate. Service is always lovely and very helpful. If it's your first time here, then you must order the burger. It is juicy, flavorful, and has so many different components (sauce, pickles, onions). The fries + garlic aioli are also a must. The aioli has a very punchy garlic flavor. We also tried their kale caesar and fried chicken wings, which were equally delicious.

One of the best burgers Ive ever had and IMO the best burger in Chicago hands down. The burger is perfection on a bun. So juicy and flavorful. The bun so buttery and soft. its what you'd dream a perfect burger should be. my only regret was not getting the egg but will just have to go back. The service here is fast and amazing. and parking was reasonable to find.

This is a bold statement, but the burger I had at Au Cheval might be the best burger I've ever had. We put our names down on a Saturday morning and had about an hour long wait. The inside of the restaurant is set up like an upscale diner, and our service was great. My husband and I shared the single cheeseburger and added bacon. The single burger came with 2 patties, which were relatively thin (which I prefer) and perfectly seasoned. I was hesitant on adding the bacon as it was an additional $6.99, but it was so worth it. I think what amazed me about this burger is that they got the ratio just right between the bun (which was also super fresh), patties, and cheese, and then the bacon made it even better. The overall flavor of the burger was incredible. I don't think I will ever be able to visit Chicago now without coming here!

My friend told me that I had to try this place when I was in Chicago and he was right -- this is definitely one of the best burger places I've been to. I got the single cheese burger ($17), which is already a double patty burger!! so keep that in mind when ordering a single or double (actually a triple). I also added the thick cut peppered bacon (+$7), which is an absolute must. This is some of the best bacon I've had on a burger. I do wish the burger had more lettuce, tomato, or some fresh ingredients to contrast the patty though. The crispy fries ($14) were perfect with the garlic aioli and the clever clover cocktail ($16) had an interesting pistachio cream ale that went well with the burger. Overall, this is definitely one of the most expensive burger meals that I've had, but I think it was worth it. Definitely be ready to splurge if you come here!
